Patient dies after falling from 8th floor of DMCH
A patient has died after falling from the eighth floor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The deceased was identified as Najnin, 20, hailed from Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali.
The incident took place around 7:45pm on Sunday night (Janaury 25) at the hospital’s new building, where she had been admitted to the medicine department.
Police and family members said the incident appears to be a case of suicide.
According to police and family sources, Najnin had been suffering from kidney disease and other complications and had been undergoing treatment at Ward 802 for about two months. She was reportedly under mental stress due to financial hardship and the burden of medical expenses.
She jumped from an open space near the bathroom of the ward and died on the spot, police said.
Confirming the incident, DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Md Faruk said the patient was admitted with multiple ailments, including kidney disease, and died after falling from the eighth floor.
Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, said, "Initial findings suggest it was a suicide. Further investigations are underway into this matter."
