Patwary should be interrogated over cocktail explosions: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police is of the opinion that National Citizen Party’s chief organiser Nasiruddin Patwari should be interrogated regarding the statement given by him on the recent cocktail explosions at various places of the capital.

Joint Commissioner (Crime Prevention-South) of police Md Tofayel Ahmed Mia said this at a press conference organised at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Minto Road of the capital on Friday afternoon.

Recently after a procession of the National Citizen Party in protest against the increase in the price of fuel oil Nasiruddin Patwary had said that if the government accepts their three main demands no more cocktail explosions of any kind will take place in Dhaka city. Discussion started in the political arena on the matter after that statement given on September 21.

At the press conference journalists asked the joint commissioner of DMP whether only the leaders and activists of the organisation whose activities have been banned are involved in the recent cocktail explosion incidents in the capital or whether someone else is also associated with it.

In reply Tofayel Ahmed Mia said Patwari will have to be interrogated to know why he gave such a statement. In his words, Patwari must certainly be interrogated.

However, in response to the journalists’ question whether police can interrogate him this DMP official said senior officers will be able to say on this matter.

Earlier after that statement of Patwari Jubo Dal president Abdul Monayem Munna had demanded measures against him. He demanded the arrest of Patwari in the incidents of cocktail explosions and setting fire to buses.

On the other hand, it has been said in reports published on the explanation of Patwary’s statement that the purpose of his statement was—if their political demands are implemented there will be no opportunity for the activists of Awami League to cause cocktail explosions in the capital. No information establishing Patwary's direct involvement with the cocktail explosions has been established in these reports.
