People from all walks of life pay tribute at National Martyrs’ Memorial
People have thronged the National Martyrs’ Memorial to remember the brave sons of the nation whose sacrifices during the Liberation War secured a new homeland for Bengalis.
From early Tuesday morning, December 16, thousands of people from across the country gathered at the memorial to pay homage to the martyrs.
On the ground, representatives of various organisations, school and college students, political figures, freedom fighters and family members of freedom fighters were seen arriving at the memorial premises. Carrying flowers, banners and festoons, they offered floral wreaths in tribute to the fallen heroes, leaving the altar covered with flowers.
Ariful Islam, who came from Shyamoli to pay his respects, said he visits the National Martyrs’ Memorial every year to honour those whose sacrifices brought independence to the country. He added that he came again this year to pay floral tribute to the martyrs.
Schoolteacher Saiful Islam said the country achieved independence through the Liberation War and that visiting the memorial was a way to remember the nation’s brave sons. He described the day as one of national pride and said he paid his humble respects to all those who laid down their lives for the country.
