People oppose PR system: Salahuddin Ahmad
Salahuddin Ahmad, a member of the BNP standing committee, has said the public is opposed to the PR (proportional representation) system and urged all political parties to move beyond division.
He made the remarks after laying a wreath at the grave of the late President Ziaur Rahman during the annual ceremony marking the foundation of the BNP Ulama wing on Tuesday.
Salahuddin said the country’s people are now focused on the election and that prospective candidates and ordinary citizens are engaging in voter outreach. “If any party tries to obstruct the electoral process, the people will identify and politically reject them,” he warned. He added that attempts to derail the democratic transition are already visible and that both domestic and foreign conspiracies will be countered by the people.
He reiterated that the BNP does not seek religiously based division in politics and that the party works across faiths and communities to secure full democratic voting rights.
