People pay tribute to Badruddin at Shaheed Minar
The body of writer, intellectual, and politician Comrade Badruddin Umar was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday morning, where people from all walks of life gathered to pay their respects.
The funeral procession started after 10 a.m., with leaders from various political parties, intellectuals, artists, and citizens joining to honor the veteran figure. Advisers to the interim government were also present.
Following the Janaza prayer held at Dhaka University’s Central Jame Mosque after Zuhr prayer, Umar will be laid to rest at Jurain Cemetery.
Umar, who served as president of the National Liberation Council, died on Sunday morning at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital at the age of 94.
In July, he made headlines after testifying in a war crimes case related to the July mass uprising, where he criticized the Sheikh Hasina government and shared his views on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
