People resisted the attempt to disrupt the election: PM
Prime Minister and also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said the people of Bangladesh have resisted the attempt of foiling the election.
She said: "There was an attempt to prevent the 12th national elections. But the people of Bangladesh have foiled that attempt by casting votes."
Thanking the people of the country for this, she said by casting their votes, people have proved that the power of the people is the greatest power.
She said this while delivering har speech as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu Homecoming Day public rally in the capital on Wednesday.
Sheikh Hasina said that this election will consolidate democracy. "We have formed the Election Commission. We did not interfere with their work. No one can question this election. No one can complain that the voting took place at night."
She termed the election as transparent, free and fair.
Sheikh Hasina said that during the celebration of the birth centenary of the father of the nation in 2021, Awami League promised to take Bangladesh one step further. "That year we were promoted to the list of developing countries which will be effective in 2026."
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that the goal of Awami League's election manifesto is to create Smart Bangladesh.
She said: "We will build Bangladesh as Smart Bangladesh by 2041. Bangladesh will go backward if Awami League does not come to power."
Sheikh Hasina said: "We took the oath this morning after the January 7 elections. After the swearing-in, we had a parliamentary committee meeting. There I was elected as the leader of the parliament. Now according to the constitution, I have to write to the President."
She mentioned that she will go to the President from here after this rally.
After the victory on December 16, 1971, the father of the nation was released from Pakistan prison and returned to Bangladesh on January 10 through the United Kingdom.
This day is observed as Bangabandhu's homecoming day.
Sheikh Hasina said that after Bangabandhu's murder in 1975, she was forced to stay abroad. When she returned home and found none of his family.
"I promised to change the fate of the people of the country on that day."
Mentioning that she has taken Bangladesh to another height in the last 15 years, she said and this trend of development will continue.
