Plans underway to appoint judicial magistrates at district police stations: IGP
Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has said that plans underway to appoint judicial magistrates at all district headquarters police stations to enable immediate trial of complaints and restore public trust in law enforcement.
He made the announcement at his first formal press conference at the Police Headquarters Media Centre on Monday (March 9).
The IGP said the initiative aims to establish each district headquarters station as a “zero-complaint” police station. “The plan to deploy judicial magistrates at police stations will ensure prompt legal action based on evidence, allowing victims to receive swift justice,” he said.
Emphasising public service, the IGP added, “Our goal is to rebuild public confidence by delivering policing in a way that citizens leave stations satisfied, without any grievances.” Each station will be monitored continuously by a circle ASP, and police response times will be minimised.
On crime control, the IGP reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against extortion, stating that operations against criminals and drug traffickers are already underway regardless of political affiliation. Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, highway police, district police, and RAB are coordinating to ensure the safety of travelers and prevent robberies and snatching.
He also noted measures to address wage disputes in the garment sector through coordination with factory owners and worker representatives. Modernisation of CID and heightened surveillance against radical elements were highlighted, along with a focus on preventing violence against women and children.
Concluding the press briefing, the IGP said, “We view the people as the backbone of the state. Our commitment is to remain by their side and provide the highest standard of service. We are fully dedicated to building a citizen-friendly police force.”
