BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that a vested group is trying to destabilise the country’s political environment and remove the BNP from the scene to reinstall a “fascist government.”

He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan on Saturday (April 25) following a joint meeting.

Fakhrul said attempts were being made to push BNP out of politics through propaganda, referring to recent remarks from Jamaat leaders. Rejecting claims that the party came to power through “engineering,” he asserted that the election had been recognised as credible both at home and abroad.

“Those spreading misinformation against BNP must be scrutinised—whether they aim to bring back an authoritarian regime,” he said, urging party members to stay away from disorderly practices in student politics.

Outlining party programmes, Fakhrul announced that BNP will hold a rally at Naya Paltan on May 1 marking International Workers’ Day, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to attend as chief guest.

He said the rally would serve as a platform to reaffirm the party’s political commitment and set the direction for future movement.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Labour Party chief coordinator Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, among others, were present at the briefing.
