PM calls for truthful and objective journalism
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought the cooperation of the media to bring about positive changes in the country. Urging the media to move forward on the path of truthful and objective journalism, he said that the truth should be presented to the people as truth, not party positions or government flattery.
The Prime Minister made this call in a meeting with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and news editors of television channels on Monday. The meeting discussed in detail the current crisis in the country's television industry, professional challenges of journalists, job security and media freedom.
After the meeting, journalist leaders said that the atmosphere of the discussion was very cordial and fruitful. The meeting also discussed increasing the acceptability of the media, government cooperation and formulating effective policies to protect the freedom of the media.
Regarding the meeting, the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh said that the media should play an important role in awakening human and social values along with economy and social policy. For this purpose, an initiative has been taken to form an independent media commission. A dialogue will be held with stakeholders on this issue on June 18. The meeting demanded that the television industry be developed as a full-fledged industry.
Media representatives emphasized the need to implement a wage board, ensure job security, and quickly form an effective media commission.
