PM calls standing committee meeting on Thursday to finalize presidential candidate

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has convened a meeting of the party's standing committee to finalize the party's candidate for the upcoming presidential election. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday morning (August 13).

According to party sources, the final decision regarding who will be the BNP's nominee for the presidency will be made during this meeting. Preparations have also been made to submit the nomination paper for the designated candidate on behalf of the party following the meeting.

Discussions regarding potential candidates have been ongoing at the policymaking level of the BNP ahead of the presidential election, with top leaders sharing their perspectives, though no official name has been announced yet.

According to the Election Commission's schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the presidential election is August 13. Consequently, the BNP is set to finalize its candidate during Thursday's standing committee meeting and complete the subsequent procedures on the final day of submission.

The name of the party's nominated candidate for the presidency is expected to be officially announced following Thursday's meeting.
