PM chairs meeting on World Environment Day programmes, climate action plan

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday (June 6) chaired a meeting on programmes marking World Environment Day and preparations for climate-related initiatives, including a national message campaign.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital's Tejgaon, according to Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

Discussions focused on the upcoming nationwide tree plantation programme involving the planting of 2.5 billion trees, alongside broader environmental and climate action plans.

Emphasis was placed on strengthening environmental protection measures, addressing the impacts of climate change, and ensuring effective implementation of the national afforestation drive.

Officials said the initiatives are aimed at promoting sustainability and enhancing the country’s climate resilience.
