PM directs strengthening of local government at grassroots level
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed that the local government framework be strengthened to accelerate development initiatives at the grassroots level.
The directive came during a meeting at the BNP chairman’s office in the capital's Gulshan on Monday evening (March 31), with 42 newly appointed district council administrators.
He emphasised that district administrators must play an effective role in implementing development activities, making local governance more dynamic, and ensuring services reach citizens directly.
The meeting was attended by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and State Minister Mir Shahed Alam.
The government had appointed administrators to 42 district councils on March 15, and this was the first formal interaction between the Prime Minister and the newly assigned officials.
