PM directs to ensure green infrastructure in Chinese economic zone in Anwara
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the concerned authorities to ensure integrated waste management and mandatory use of renewable energy in the Chinese economic and industrial zone located in Anwara, Chattogram.
The ECNEC meeting approved the 'Supporting Infrastructure Project for Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone' on the condition of solving environmental problems and including sustainable energy solutions in the project design on Tuesday (June 16). After the meeting, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki briefed journalists at the NEC conference room.
The project has been approved at a cost of about Tk 4,189 crore with the aim of accelerating the pace of industrialization and attracting foreign investment. Of this, the government will provide Tk 1,722 crore and the remaining Tk 2,467 crore will come from project loans and grants.
While reviewing the project proposal, the Prime Minister emphasized on further strengthening the environmental protection system. He directed to develop a complete waste management system following modern environmental standards. He also directed to set up a modern wastewater treatment plant (ETP) and make the treated water reusable. He also directed to make the use of renewable energy mandatory by installing solar panels in the entire industrial area.
The State Minister for Planning said that the project has been approved on the condition of implementing these instructions and these eco-friendly measures will have to be reflected in the final plan.
