PM distributes 20,000 raincoats to tea workers
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated a distribution program of 20,000 raincoats to ensure safe working conditions and protection for tea workers in the Sylhet division against adverse weather conditions.
He launched the program by handing over raincoats to 10 tea workers at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat on Tuesday. The initiative was taken by the Ministry of Social Welfare with support from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds in the private sector.
These raincoats will be distributed among tea garden workers in Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj. Among the contributions, the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries provided 10,000 raincoats, Chevron Bangladesh provided 5,000, and Pandughar Group provided 5,000.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister said that major problems can be solved if everyone in society comes forward step by step. He also assured that the government would extend support to such initiatives.
Private sector representatives noted that working for the welfare of underprivileged and working-class people alongside business activities is part of their social responsibility. They expressed interest in remaining involved in such initiatives in the future to improve the working environment and living standards of tea workers and marginal communities.
