PM expresses grief over poet Al Mujahidi's death
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of student leader, freedom fighter, journalist and Ekushey Padak-winning poet Al Mujahidi.
In a condolence message on Friday, June 19, the prime minister prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In the message, the prime minister said Al Mujahidi had always taken a firm stance in favour of democracy, human rights and the country's independence and sovereignty. His long literary, journalistic and social contributions will remain memorable for the nation.
The prime minister further said Mujahidi's death has created a deep void in the country's literary, cultural and intellectual circles, which will not be easily filled.
Al Mujahidi, a student leader of the 1960s and an Ekushey Padak-winning poet, passed away at 1:40 pm on Friday at the United Hospital in the capital while undergoing treatment. He was 83 years old.
