Due to the war situation in the Middle East, all flights from Bangladesh to the Middle East have been suspended. As a result, expatriates going to the Middle East and passengers on connecting flights to Europe and America are stranded at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inquired about the current situation at the airport and the suffering of passengers on Saturday night.

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury went to the airport at 11:30 pm on Saturday (February 28) to inquire about the stranded passengers. During this time, he listened to the problems of the passengers and supervised the steps taken to help them.

At one stage, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called him and asked about the current situation at the airport and the suffering of the passengers. The minister assured him that the ministry and Civil Aviation are jointly arranging all facilities to the passengers.

Ariful Haque himself confirmed that he received the Prime Minister's call.

He told the Prime Minister, "We, including the Senior Secretary, are staying at Shahjalal International Airport. Arrangements have been made to accommodate 50 passengers under the management of our ministry. Civil Aviation has ensured accommodation for another 800 people."

He also said over the phone that 53 passengers had arrived in Dhaka from Sylhet for a flight to Muscat. Their flight was canceled. They have been sent to a hotel and arrangements have been made for Sehri. Arrangements have also been made for them to reach Sylhet tomorrow in an AC bus.
