PM issues urgent directives to protect lives, property amid floods

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed all concerned agencies and field administrations to work with maximum coordination and vigilance to protect lives and property of those affected by floods, landslides and waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall.

He gave these directives during a virtual meeting with divisional commissioners, DIGs, DCs, SPs and civil surgeons from the PMO on Sunday, July 12.

The PM said protecting lives and property is the administration's top priority and no negligence will be tolerated. He ordered officials to ensure rapid distribution of relief, dry food, clean water, baby food, medicines and healthcare to affected people.

He also stressed the need for safe shelters, sanitation, power and communication facilities, with special attention to women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities and pregnant women.

The PM warned law enforcement to remain vigilant against crimes such as theft, hoarding and relief embezzlement during the crisis. He also emphasised transparency and accountability in relief distribution.

Officials informed the PM that waterlogging in Chattogram is receding, but the situation in Sylhet is worsening due to damage to the Manu river dam, while Rangpur faces new risks.
