PM meets envoys of OIC countries
Ambassadors and high commissioners of OIC countries posted in Dhaka paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting and meeting with diplomats of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon (May 12).
In the meeting, representatives of the OIC countries congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as the Prime Minister. At the same time, they expressed their interest in further enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors including investment, trade, education, health, textile and pharmaceutical industries.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed the diplomats' statements and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh to the OIC member countries. He recalled the close relations of Bangladesh with Muslim countries since the time of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and expressed hope to further strengthen those relations in the future.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister also emphasized on increasing people-to-people contact. He also sought more effective support from OIC countries in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors and high commissioners of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, the heads of missions of Iran, Iraq and Libya also participated in the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Foreign Secretary Md. Farhadul Islam and the Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
