PM meets Veon chairman, urges affordable smartphones, internet

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Augi Fabela, Chairman of Veon, the parent company of Banglalink, one of Bangladesh's leading mobile operators. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Office in the National Parliament building on Monday morning, June 29.

Post and Telecommunications, and Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam, Prime Minister's Adviser on Post, Telecommunications and IT Rehan Asif Asad, Veon board member Michelle Sweeting, and Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johan Hendrik Martinus Baas were present.

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Shadad Hossain Swadhin said the meeting discussed making digital services more accessible.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called on Banglalink authorities to take initiatives to deliver smartphones to customers at more affordable prices, ensuring that people from all walks of life can have smartphones in their hands. He also urged consideration of further reducing internet prices.
