PM, opposition leader hold brief meeting
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman in parliament on Monday afternoon, March 30.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's office in the Parliament Secretariat. The Prime Minister welcomed the opposition leader to his office.
At the conclusion of their conversation, the Prime Minister walked with the opposition leader for some distance towards his office in the Parliament Secretariat. Those present praised the Prime Minister's gesture of courtesy and etiquette.
Earlier at 12:00 pm, the Prime Minister and the opposition leader stood side by side to offer the funeral prayers for Dilara Hafiz, wife of Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. After the prayers, as the two leaders walked together towards the parliament building, the opposition leader expressed his interest in speaking with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister immediately invited Dr Shafiqur Rahman to his office in the Parliament Secretariat.
Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon said the meeting was brief, with the two leaders talking for about 20 minutes. After the short conversation, the opposition leader left the Prime Minister's office. The Prime Minister walked with him some distance towards his office.
The Additional Press Secretary said the Prime Minister shows due respect and courtesy to everyone. The public has been impressed by the Prime Minister's courtesy at various events before the national election and after BNP assumed power. Today, the Prime Minister demonstrated his natural courtesy by walking the opposition leader towards his office.
