PM orders action drive in violence against women cases
The government is prioritising legal cases related to violence against women across the country. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered a special drive to take action against those involved in such crimes.
The instruction was given during a cabinet meeting chaired by the prime minister at the Secretariat today.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said, "A suo motu directive was issued regarding rape cases that are occurring or have occurred in the past. Instructions have been given to take swift action to stop these crimes in society.”
In response to a question, the cabinet secretary noted that multiple agencies are involved in such cases. Relevant authorities have been directed to ensure better coordination to resolve these cases quickly.
He added that the government's goal is to strengthen the institutional framework by empowering the courts in every district to ensure speedy trials.
Meanwhile, the prime minister also instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief to provide necessary assistance to those affected by recent hailstorms and flash floods in Thakurgaon, Joypurhat, and Sunamganj.
While the ministries will take long-term steps, the cabinet secretary mentioned that instructions have been given to provide immediate support from the funds available to the deputy commissioners (DCs).
