Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the Education Ministry to develop alternative measures to ease severe traffic congestion during school hours in the capital.

The instruction came during a meeting with Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning (March 31), according to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.

The prime minister expressed concern over heavy traffic caused by a large number of private vehicles crowding in front of schools during pick-up and drop-off hours. In some cases, nearly 100 private cars gather for around 150 students, creating gridlock on major roads and disrupting commuters as well as students.

He asked the ministry to identify the issues and propose modern, effective solutions to ensure disciplined and smooth transportation for students.

Later, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, and Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan also met the prime minister, the press wing said.
