PM orders crackdown on syndicates, tighter monitoring of essential goods markets
Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to strengthen market monitoring and take strict action against syndicates and any attempt to create artificial shortages in the supply of essential commodities.
He made the remarks on Sunday (May 3) while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Conference held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
The Prime Minister said ensuring stability in the commodity market is directly linked to social stability and public trust, stressing the need for continuous monitoring to prevent price manipulation, hoarding and market distortion.
He also instructed field administration to remain vigilant so that no group can artificially raise prices or create instability through syndication or stockpiling practices.
Emphasising agricultural protection, he called for ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce and improving access to fertiliser, seeds and irrigation facilities, adding that agriculture must be seen as a key pillar of rural economy and food security.
On energy use, he directed authorities to discourage unnecessary electricity consumption in markets after 7:00pm and ordered stronger enforcement through mobile courts against violations.
The Prime Minister also urged deputy commissioners to ensure citizen-friendly administration so that people do not face harassment or delays in receiving public services.
