PM orders naming of road in Dhaka after former Emir of Qatar
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the authorities to name a suitable road in the capital in memory of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Prime Minister has issued verbal instructions to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) and the Dhaka City Corporation to take the necessary measures.
The Prime Minister shared this information while participating in a discussion on a proposal raised in the National Parliament by the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday (July 15).
Prime Minister Rahman stated that following the proposal by the Leader of the Opposition, he had already verbally instructed the LGRD Ministry to coordinate with the Dhaka City Corporation to select an appropriate road and name it after the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He also thanked the Leader of the Opposition for presenting the proposal.
Paying tribute to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister noted that honoring him is an expression of respect toward the people of Qatar. He added that Qatar has long assisted Bangladesh in its development and progress, and that cooperation continues today.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, has handed over a condolence message sent by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the demise of the former Emir, who was also the current Emir's father.
During the state condolence ceremony held at the Lusail Amiri Diwan in Doha, the Speaker expressed deep sympathy to the Emir of Qatar and members of the bereaved royal family on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh. Describing the late Sheikh Hamad as the architect of modern Qatar, the Speaker said his visionary leadership and contributions toward strengthening Bangladesh-Qatar relations will be remembered forever.
The Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser and Special Envoy Humayun Kabir, along with the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, were present during the occasion.
