PM orders strict action to remove unfit vehicles

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered effective measures to swiftly remove unfit, expired and environmentally polluting buses, trucks and other vehicles from the capital's roads. He issued the directive at a meeting on environmental pollution at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday.

The meeting discussed in detail various steps to prevent air and noise pollution. In particular, a decision was taken to take swift and effective measures to curb air pollution caused by brick kilns. The Prime Minister stressed the use of environment-friendly alternative technologies for brick production.

The meeting also discussed in detail the regulation of excessive horn use by vehicles in the capital. Tarique Rahman directed law enforcement agencies to be stricter on this issue. The possibility of using artificial intelligence to control honking, modelled on AI cameras used in traffic management, was also discussed at the meeting.

Additionally, he directed the installation of automatic traffic light systems at at least 50 more points in the capital within the shortest possible time.

The meeting was attended by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu, State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Environment Dr Saimum Parvez, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
