PM pays courtesy call on President

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has paid his first courtesy call on Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban since the latter assumed office as President. He met the President at Bangabhaban on Tuesday afternoon, September 29.

President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam said the President welcomed the Prime Minister when he arrived at Bangabhaban around 3pm. At that time, the President introduced the Prime Minister to senior officials, including the President's Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President on various aspects of his recent visit to the United States. He also highlighted his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and meetings with heads of state and government of various countries, the UN Secretary-General and top officials of international economic and development partner organisations.

The President praised the Prime Minister's speech at the UN General Assembly session and congratulated him. He described the speech as farsighted, firm and direction-oriented. In the President's view, the speech reflected Bangladesh's national interests and aspirations and clearly highlighted the country's position on important global issues.

The President expressed hope that the Prime Minister's speech at the UN General Assembly would play a role in further strengthening Bangladesh's dignity and position in the international arena. At the same time, he noted that the Prime Minister's US visit has also played a positive role in expanding Bangladesh's international relations and cooperation.

During the meeting, they also discussed various matters related to national and state interests. The President thanked the Prime Minister for coming to Bangabhaban for the courtesy call.

Secretaries of the President's Office and the Prime Minister's Office and other concerned senior officials were present at the time.
