PM personally monitoring flood situation: Mahdi Amin

The government is carrying out rescue, relief and rehabilitation work in flood-affected areas across the country under the Prime Minister's direction, PM's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin has said. He said the Prime Minister is personally monitoring the situation round the clock and through members of his various teams.

Mahdi Amin made the remarks at an emergency press conference at the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday afternoon, July 11.

He said five districts in the Chattogram division—Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban—have experienced immense suffering due to continuous heavy rainfall and subsequent floods and landslides.

He said the Prime Minister held a meeting with officials from the local administration on Friday and will hold discussions with all divisional commissioners today to receive feedback and provide further instructions. A coordinated effort has been established involving all levels of administration, from UNOs to DCs, SPs and law enforcement agencies.

The Prime Minister has also directed all wings and associate organisations of BNP, including Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal, to work alongside local people, Mahdi Amin said.

Some Tk 2 crore has already been distributed to affected people, and more than 1,000 shelters have been opened. The government is simultaneously working on rescue, relief and rehabilitation, he added.

By postponing examinations, the government has taken a multi-faceted step. Through this coordinated initiative, we want the affected people to be able to breathe a sigh of relief, the spokesperson said.
