Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman had applied to go to France to gain experience on new energy-saving technologies for street lighting. The Prime Minister has directly rejected his proposal for this foreign trip. However, the Head of Government has approved the proposal of Rajshahi City Corporation's Power Department Executive Engineer ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet.

The Prime Minister made this decision while commenting on a summary sent by the Local Government Department on Monday. This news was reported from the Prime Minister's Office.

Sources said that the application for a foreign trip by these two officials was submitted at the invitation of Signify Bangladesh Limited to visit the Outdoor Lighting Application Center in France. While commenting on this proposal, Prime Minister

Tarique Rahman said, 'If any engineer gains knowledge in this regard, it will be useful for Rajshahi City Corporation. The administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation is not an engineer, so his visit does not carry any importance. Only the proposed executive engineer (electricity) can go on this visit if necessary.’

At the same time, the Prime Minister suggested taking technical assistance from BUET and other engineering universities of the country in such innovative work in the future.

Sources said that the Prime Minister basically gives top priority to involving real experts involved in any development work of the state. He is strongly opposed to wasting state money by sending those who have no direct institutional or professional connection to work abroad.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had similarly rejected the proposal of the mayor and other officials of the Chattogram City Corporation to visit the United States to observe the mosquito control measures.
