PM seeks diplomatic support for Bangladesh’s candidate
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged diplomats stationed in Dhaka to support Bangladesh’s candidate, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He made the appeal while hosting an iftar in honour of foreign diplomats at the state guest house Jamuna State Guest House in the capital on Friday.
During his remarks, the Prime Minister said the government is committed to protecting human rights, safeguarding freedom of expression and promoting a culture of tolerance. He also stressed that firm steps would be taken to combat corruption at all levels of government.
Ambassadors, high commissioners and other diplomatic representatives from different countries attended the iftar event. They broke their fast together in a cordial atmosphere and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations.
Senior government officials and other concerned individuals were also present at the programme.
