PM seeks Malaysia's energy assistance in call with PM Ibrahim

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought Malaysia's cooperation in tackling the ongoing gas crisis. He held a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and also sent a letter to the Malaysian leader, said State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday (July 28), the State Minister said the government shares the public's concern over the gas crisis. PM Rahman sent a letter to the Malaysian Prime Minister on Monday, which was handed over by Education Adviser Mahdi Amin on Tuesday . The two leaders spoke by phone at 2pm Bangladesh time on the same day.

During the call, PM Tarique Rahman sought Malaysia's support in overcoming Bangladesh's energy crisis. In response, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim assured that he would discuss the matter with his relevant ministries and team to explore all possible assistance, and would later inform Bangladesh of the outcome.

The State Minister said the government is deeply distressed by the public's suffering. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources is working day and night, and the Prime Minister is monitoring the situation continuously. All possible diplomatic and governmental initiatives are being taken to resolve the crisis.
