PM seeks update on Tonu murder case progress on Eid: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Asaduzzaman said, The Prime Minister has given instructions over the phone on the day of Eid to know the progress of the murder case of Sohagi Jahan Tonu of Cumilla.

He made this information while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized at BRAC Center in Mohakhali in the capital on Saturday (May 2).

The Law Minister said that on the morning of Eid, the Prime Minister sent him a newspaper report and wanted to know about the latest progress in the case. Then, on the first working day after Eid, he sat down with the Prime Minister and reviewed the detailed information.

He also said that progress has been seen recently in this case, which has been pending for 10 years, and one accused has already been arrested.

Regarding the investigation of the case, the Law Minister said that many of the works that were stalled in the past are now being taken forward quickly under the government's instructions. However, the matter is currently under the investigation process under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

At the event, he emphasized on making the activities of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal more effective.

It is worth noting that the Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case has been a long-discussed case, and questions have been raised in the public mind about the progress of the trial process at various times.
