PM stands by measles-affected twin children
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended support for the treatment and overall assistance of two-year-old twin brothers Hasan and Hossain, who are critically ill with pneumonia after contracting measles.
The matter came to the prime minister’s attention following a report published recently in a national daily under the headline “Twin Children Fighting for Life in ICU After Measles Leads to Pneumonia.”
As part of the initiative, a delegation led by the prime minister’s Assistant Personal Physician Dr. ANM Monowarul Kadir Bitu visited Mugda General Hospital in Dhaka and met the family of the children to inquire about their treatment on Wednesday evening (May 13).
During the visit, financial assistance and nutritious fruits were handed over to the family on behalf of the prime minister.
Dr. ANM Monowarul Kadir Bitu also spoke with the doctors on duty and stressed the importance of ensuring the highest standard of treatment for Hasan and Hossain, as well as other children undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Doctors said the physical condition of the twins has improved significantly.
They have been shifted from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a general ward. However, the children are still suffering from malnutrition and remain under close medical observation.
Among others present during the visit were Mugda General Hospital Director Dr Mezbahur Rahman, Senior Consultant Dr Md Shakhawat Hossain, Associate Professor of Pediatrics Dr Shamim Ibne Halim, Dr Md Zahirul Islam Zahir, Dr Hasibul Hasan and Dr Md Hafizur Rahman, along with other physicians, nurses and hospital staff.
Hasan and Hossain’s father works as a construction labourer. Their family hails from a remote village in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj district.
