PM steps in for treatment of toddler who survived Bogura accident
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assumed responsibility for the medical care of a 1½-year-old child who miraculously survived a road accident in Sherpur of Bogura, which claimed the lives of her parents and two other family members.
The critically injured child has been transferred from Bogura to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon, Dhaka, for advanced treatment.
Atikur Rahman Rumon, the prime minister’s additional press secretary, confirmed that Tarique Rahman is personally overseeing the child’s medical care. He has instructed the Bogura Deputy Commissioner and the director of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital to ensure the highest level of treatment for all injured.
Special medical arrangements and full coverage of treatment costs have also been coordinated with the director of the Neurosciences Hospital in Dhaka, he added.
The accident took place on Wednesday morning (March 18) when a passenger microbus traveling from Dhaka to Rangpur collided with an unknown obstruction in Sherpur.
Hearing about the accident, the Prime Minister expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences over the tragedy.
Police and hospital sources said the microbus was carrying 17 passengers to Rangpur when it met with the accident in Sherpur. One passenger died on the spot. The injured were taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths of the child’s parents and two other family members. The toddler remains in critical condition and is fighting for her life.
