PM takes responsibility of child Anifa suffering from complex disease

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the treatment of two-year-old child Anifa Akhtar, who is suffering from a congenital complex disease. He has directed concerned authorities to ensure her necessary treatment and look after the overall wellbeing of her family.

Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Roni confirmed the information on Monday (July 20).

He said Anifa's family was unable to bear the cost of treatment. When the matter came to the Prime Minister's attention through media reports, he immediately ordered necessary measures.

Following the Prime Minister's directives, a delegation led by Krishi Bid Moksedul Momin Mithun, member secretary of 'Amra BNP Paribar', and under the plan of Prime Minister's Office physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr Shah Mohammad Amanullah Aman, visited the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital. There, they held meetings with specialist doctors to coordinate Anifa's treatment.

A five-member expert medical board, led by Dr Zahidul Islam, head of the hospital's paediatric cardiology department, reviewed Anifa's physical condition, medical records and test results. The board stated that the child's condition is extremely complex and critical.

According to the experts' decision, Anifa's case will soon be presented before a specialist medical team from China expected to arrive in Bangladesh. The next treatment plan will be determined based on the joint opinion of local and Chinese doctors. If necessary, the possibility of sending her abroad for advanced treatment will also be considered.

The delegation assured Anifa's family members that the government would provide all-out support for the child's treatment. They also conveyed the Prime Minister's heartfelt sympathy and good wishes to the family.
