PM Tarique Rahman inaugurates nationwide canal excavation programme
Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated the ‘Canal Excavation Programme-2026’ on Monday at 12:30pm in Dinajpur.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative aims to strengthen environmental protection and climate resilience, fulfilling a key electoral pledge of the current government to excavate and re-excavate rivers, canals, and reservoirs across the country.
In the first phase, the program will be implemented in 54 districts, including Dinajpur.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister will visit Faridpur Graveyard in Dinajpur city to pay respects to his close relatives, including his maternal grandfather Md. Iskandar Majumdar, grandmother Tayeba Majumdar, and maternal aunt Khursheed Jahan Haque.
