PM Tarique Rahman leaves Dhaka for Maheshkhali visit

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka by helicopter on Sunday morning (August 9) for a daylong visit to Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram, where he is scheduled to inspect major development projects and oversee rehabilitation efforts for recent flood victims.

The prime minister departed Tejgaon Airport at 9:15am for Maheshkhali, his Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon confirmed.

He is scheduled to visit the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-fired power plant and activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority around 10:30am.

At around 12:30pm, Tarique Rahman will attend a rehabilitation programme at the West Banshkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara union, where new homes are expected to be handed over to families whose houses were destroyed by the recent floods.

From Maheshkhali, the prime minister will travel by road towards Fatikchhari. At around 2:00pm, he is scheduled to meet Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Uloom Babunagari Madrasa.

He will later visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari around 3:15pm to offer prayers at the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.

After a brief stop at the Hathazari Dak Bungalow, Rahman will attend another flood rehabilitation programme at the Hathazari Government College ground at 5pm.

The prime minister is scheduled to attend an organisational meeting at the Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View in Chattogram at 7:15pm.

He is expected to return to Dhaka by air from Shah Amanat International Airport at around 9:30pm after completing the day’s engagements.

According to his press secretary, Rahman will travel by helicopter from Dhaka to Maheshkhali and by road from Fatikchhari to Chattogram.
