Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman made an unscheduled visit to the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO), inspecting the agency's facilities and holding impromptu exchanges with its staff.

The premiere arrived at SPARRSO's office in Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital at 9:15am on Sunday (June 28) — well outside any pre-announced programme — and toured each department of the defence ministry-administered institution.

SPARRSO Chairman Md Rashidul Islam briefed the prime minister on the organisation's overall activities and ongoing programmes. Department heads subsequently presented detailed accounts of their respective research initiatives, innovations, and current projects.

Directing officials to transform SPARRSO into a modern, self-reliant, and future-ready institution, the Prime Minister called for the agency to be developed into an effective contributor to national security and development through advanced space research capabilities.

The visit was attended by the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Ruman, Private Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister Md Mehedul Islam, Deputy Press Secretary-1 Zahidul Islam Rony, and senior officials of the Defence Ministry and SPARRSO.

SPARRSO is Bangladesh's national institution dedicated to research, development, and application of space science, satellite technology, and remote sensing.
