PM Tarique Rahman pays tribute at Tiananmen's Monument to the People's Heroes

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday (June 26) paid tribute to China's fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Beijing's historic Tiananmen Square as part of his official visit to China.

The wreath-laying ceremony took place at around 9:15am (local time) with full state honours.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, the national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played during the ceremony, followed by a bugle call in tribute to the martyrs. After placing the wreath, the prime minister observed a moment of silence to honour those who sacrificed their lives in China's struggle for independence and revolutionary movements.

Accompanying the prime minister were his wife, Zubaida Rahman, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Economic Affairs Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, Education and Labour Affairs Adviser Mahdi Amin, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.

The tribute was among the key engagements of Prime Minister Rahman's official visit to China ahead of his bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other high-level diplomatic engagements in Beijing.
