PM Tarique Rahman sets example of simplicity, drives wife to event

Breaking away from the traditional norms of security cordons and protocol, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman set a unique example by driving his own car to an event in Agargaon from the Secretariat on a rainy Wednesday evening.

The prime minister had been busy with official work at the Secretariat throughout the day. After finishing his duties around 7:30 pm, he headed towards the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Agargaon. He was scheduled to attend a special event organised by the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association as the chief guest.

However, surprising everyone, the prime minister took the wheel of his designated government bulletproof car himself. His wife, Dr Zubaidah Rahman, was seated beside him. Without any special fanfare or a chauffeur, he navigated through city traffic and reached his destination in a very unassuming manner.

Such ordinary behaviour by a head of state in a modern democratic world sends a positive message to the public and helps bridge the distance between the leadership and the citizens.
