PM Tarique Rahman taking tough action against negligence in state work: Rizvi

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is taking strict action against negligence in government work and is not giving anyone preferential treatment, BNP Secretary General and the prime minister’s political adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Saturday (August 8).

“Whether it is a bureaucrat or a political figure, the prime minister is taking firm action against negligence,” Rizvi said. He added that those performing their responsibilities properly were also being encouraged to do more for public welfare.

Rizvi made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled “Bangladesh of Tomorrow” at the Dhaka Reporters Unity’s CRAB auditorium, where he attended the unveiling of the book Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Five-Month Development Journey, edited by Rotarian M Nazmul Hasan.

Highlighting the book’s significance, Rizvi described it as an important record of the government’s activities during its first five months in office. He said the publication compiled data, statistics and events related to the government’s performance and presented them in an organised manner.

According to Rizvi, the book documents several initiatives and policy measures, including the Family Card and Farmer Card programmes, canal excavation, plans to introduce a Health Card and steps taken to address the country’s gas shortage.

He said Tarique had been travelling across the country since taking office to oversee implementation of election promises and personally monitor progress on various commitments.

Rizvi also criticised what he described as misinformation and efforts to obstruct the government’s work, saying the book would help counter such claims by presenting government activities with data and statistics.

Turning to the importance of reading, Rizvi said books played a vital role in expanding knowledge and advancing civilisation. He described books as a “passport to the mind,” arguing that knowledge gained through reading could help people overcome both intellectual and social darkness.

The event was chaired by the organisation’s adviser Rotarian Nazmul Hasan and moderated by its president Saidur Rahman. Lawmaker Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, BNP Executive Committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal Vice-President Dr Touhid Aual, among others, attended the programme.
