PM Tarique Rahman's daughter Zaima Rahman named legal officer at UNGA office

Zaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has been appointed as a legal officer at the Office of the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Her appointment is listed on the official website of the Office of UNGA President Khalilur Rahman, according to reports citing the UN office. She will handle legal matters within the president’s office.

Zaima, the only daughter of Tarique Rahman and Dr Zubaida Rahman, is also the granddaughter of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

She studied law at Queen Mary University of London and later completed her Bar-at-Law in the United Kingdom. She also passed the preliminary stage of the Bangladesh Bar Council’s enrolment examination in June 2026.

The Office of the President of the General Assembly supports the president throughout the session and serves as a point of contact for member states, the UN system, media and the public.

Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh’s foreign minister, was elected president of the 81st General Assembly session on June 2 and assumed the position on September 8. The session runs through September 2027.
