PM to attend Dhaka University convocation in January

Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman has given consent to attend the upcoming January convocation of Dhaka University. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam met the Prime Minister at the Secretariat and invited him to join the convocation on Thursday (August 20). The Prime Minister accepted the invitation and consented to participate in the convocation.

Dhaka University public relations office informed this information in a press release.

Convener of Dhaka University’s White Panel, syndicate member and Marketing Department Professor Md Morshed Hasan Khan was present during the meeting.

Vice-Chancellor informed the Prime Minister about the overall security situation of the university, progress of various development activities including large development projects and the proposed 20-year academic development plan during the meeting.

Vice-Chancellor also highlighted education and research activities, steps taken to strengthen relations between industrial institutions and the university, joint education and research activities with various renowned universities of the world, alumni networking and various recent initiatives for the welfare of students.

Vice-Chancellor sought the Prime Minister’s cooperation in giving special status to the university for its glorious contribution in various democratic movements including the great Language Movement, Liberation War and the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.

Vice-Chancellor also sought the Prime Minister’s cooperation in increasing the university’s research fund, developing relations between industrial institutions and the university, strengthening alumni networking, developing education and research in artificial intelligence, third language, life science, biotechnology and robotics and creating internship opportunities for students in various industrial institutions.

Vice-Chancellor said it is necessary to further strengthen co-curricular activities in residential halls, departments and institutes to develop creativity, morality, tolerance and human values among students.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in response assured overall cooperation in implementing large development projects, giving special status to Dhaka University and developing the university’s education and research.

Prime Minister called upon everyone to work unitedly to elevate Dhaka University to a respectable position in international rankings. He also emphasized taking the university forward with the cooperation of alumni.

Vice-Chancellor thanked the Prime Minister for his affection towards Dhaka University and for assuring sincere cooperation in various fields including education, research and development.
