Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will take part in two canal digging activities in Jhenaidah and Feni this month. Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee told the media after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning (April 1). He said that as per the election promise, the government is working to implement the program of digging 20,000 kilometers of canals in five years. He also said that strict measures will be taken to remove illegal structures in the canals and that the Prime Minister has given instructions to ensure that no one can encroach on rivers, canals and water bodies. In addition, the minister also mentioned that the Prime Minister is working relentlessly to implement the government's 180-day program.

চলতি মাসে ঝিনাইদহ ও ফেনীতে দুটি খাল খনন কার্যক্রমে অংশ নেবেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান। বুধবার (১ এপ্রিল) সকালে সচিবালয়ে মন্ত্রিপরিষদ বিভাগে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠক শেষে গণমাধ্যমকে এ কথা জানান পানিসম্পদমন্ত্রী শহীদ উদ্দিন চৌধুরী অ্যানি। তিনি বলেন, নির্বাচনি প্রতিশ্রুতি অনুযায়ী পাঁচ বছরে ২০ হাজার কিলোমিটার খাল খননের কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়নে সরকার কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। খালে অবৈধ স্থাপনা উচ্ছেদে কঠোর ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে এবং নদী, খাল ও জলাশয় যাতে কেউ দখল করতে না পারে সে বিষয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নির্দেশনা দিয়েছেন বলেও জানান তিনি। পাশাপাশি সরকারের ১৮০ দিনের কর্মসূচি বাস্তবায়নে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নিরলসভাবে কাজ করছেন বলেও উল্লেখ করেন মন্ত্রী।
