A simultaneous tree planting programme titled 'One Child One Tree' will be held in approximately 30,000 secondary-level educational institutions across the country on Monday, June 29. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate the programme at 10:05 am. On this occasion, one fruit-bearing tree, one timber tree and one medicinal tree will be planted at each institution.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has sent letters to the heads of all secondary educational institutions regarding the programme, instructing them to participate simultaneously in the national event.

The programme is being implemented under the Learning Acceleration in Secondary Education Project of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, with the aim of raising awareness about climate change among students and preparing them to tackle disasters.

This year, the tree planting programme will be implemented in 29,621 educational institutions across the country, including 18,907 schools, 1,446 school and colleges, and 9,268 madrasas. Each institution is being provided Tk 5,000 as a grant to carry out climate awareness activities.

The prime minister's inauguration ceremony will be displayed on large screens at every institution. Through video conferencing, the institutions will be connected to the event, and selected participants will have the opportunity to share their views directly.

Additionally, institutions have been asked to put up climate-related banners and festoons on campus, organise rallies with teachers and students, and take necessary preparations for the smooth implementation of the programme.

Ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers, members of parliament, local representatives, dignitaries, teachers, students and parents are expected to attend the events at their respective institutions.
