PM to inaugurate Tk 1,542cr flood control project in Feni on Thursday

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Feni on Thursday for a daylong official programme, during which he will inaugurate the Tk 1,542.16 crore Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project and attend several development and social welfare programmes.

The prime minister is scheduled to leave his Gulshan residence by road at 8:30am and reach the Ghata Ghar-Muhuri Bridge area in Parshuram around 12:30pm.

He will inaugurate the first phase of the rehabilitation project there and exchange greetings with local residents.

Approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 16, the project involves rehabilitation of flood-control embankments, riverbank protection, re-excavation of rivers and water bodies, and renovation of irrigation infrastructure.

The initiative is aimed at addressing recurring flooding, waterlogging and river erosion in the region.

Around 1:15pm, Tarique will travel to Begum Khaleda Zia Women's College in Fulgazi, where he is scheduled to take part in a tree-planting programme at 1:30pm.

He will then visit the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow at 2pm to inaugurate the supply of electricity to the national grid from rooftop solar installations before having lunch and taking a short break.

At 3pm, the prime minister will attend a programme at Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground, where the formal distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards will be launched. He will also hand over state honorariums to imams, muezzins and khadims of local mosques, as well as priests of other religious institutions.

The prime minister is scheduled to leave Feni for Dhaka by road at around 5:30pm.

His visit was initially scheduled for September 17 but was postponed and later rescheduled for October 1.
