Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate a simultaneous tree planting programme at more than 29,000 secondary-level educational institutions across the country on Monday, June 29. The formal inauguration will take place at 2:00 pm at the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Centre in the capital.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, the initiative is part of the government's election manifesto target of planting 25 crore saplings over five years and the 'One Child, One Tree' programme. Under this, the ministry plans to plant a total of five crore trees in schools, colleges and madrasas across the country over the next five years.

The programme was originally scheduled for 10:00 am but has been rescheduled to 2:00 pm due to special reasons, the release said.

According to the ministry, the prime minister will inaugurate the programme at a total of 29,621 educational institutions simultaneously, including 18,907 schools, 1,446 school and colleges, and 9,268 madrasas.

As part of the programme, one fruit-bearing tree, one timber tree and one medicinal tree will be planted at each institution this year. To implement this goal, each institution is being provided Tk 5,000 annually as a special climate awareness grant.

The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live on large screens at every educational institution. Ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers, members of parliament, local representatives, dignitaries, teachers, students and parents will participate at their respective institutions.
