PM to launch sports card on Monday

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the sports card and sports allowance programme on Monday. Initially, 500 athletes will receive this allowance.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque shared this information at a press conference organised at the National Sports Council on Saturday.

He said athletes who have represented the country at the national level for a long time will be brought under a pay structure and provided with regular sports allowances. Sports cards will be issued to recognise and honour them.

The state minister also said those who have won medals in various competitions will also be brought under this allowance scheme.

Outlining the ministry's future plans, he said sports officers will be appointed in 495 upazilas across the country. Additionally, initiatives have been taken to reclaim sports grounds that have been encroached upon in various parts of the capital.
