PM to pay tribute at Shaheed Minar at first hour of Ekushey

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will pay tribute to the language martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar at the first hour of Ekushey, marking Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day.

The Prime Minister’s Office disclosed the information in a message on Friday, February 20.

According to the message, the prime minister will place a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar at 12:01 am tonight in observance of the day.

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said 15,000 police personnel will be deployed around the National Shaheed Minar area on February 21 centring Mother Language Day. He made the remarks while inspecting preparations at the Central Shaheed Minar on Friday morning.

The DMP commissioner said the recent election was held without any irregularities and expressed hope that the observance would also remain smooth. He added that multi-layered security measures have been taken and 15,000 police members, along with volunteers, will remain deployed in and around the Shaheed Minar area.

Meanwhile, RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman said all necessary security arrangements, including bomb disposal units, CCTV cameras and dog squads, will be in place to avoid any untoward incidents.

He added that 64 CCTV cameras will monitor the Central Shaheed Minar and surrounding areas. Adequate security measures have also been taken nationwide.

Regarding the overall law and order situation, the RAB chief said the situation is expected to improve further and that RAB remains alert to prevent any disruption of public order in the name of pressing demands.
