Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Barishal on Monday, July 13, for the first time since assuming office. The visit has created a festive atmosphere across Barishal and the entire southern region, with locals expecting significant announcements on long-pending infrastructure projects.

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a tree plantation programme in Batajor of Gournadi upazila in the morning and then participate in another plantation programme at Bell's Park in Barishal city. In the afternoon, he will attend an organisational meeting with leaders of BNP and its associate bodies at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy.

Among the key projects locals hope will be addressed are the Dhaka-Barishal six-lane highway, an Export Processing Zone in Barishal, the Bhola-Barishal bridge, and gas supply through pipelines.

Preparations for the visit have been completed, with the district administration holding coordination meetings on security and crowd management. BNP and its associate organisations have been holding rallies and campaigns across Barishal to welcome the Prime Minister.

Local political leaders expect the visit to bring positive announcements on long-standing development demands of the southern region.
