PM to visit Chattogram on Sunday in first trip, multiple programmes lined up

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Chattogram for the first time since assuming office as prime minister. On Sunday, August 9, he will take part in several programmes in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali, Banshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari during the one-day visit.

At the start of the visit, the Prime Minister will visit the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-based power plant and various development activities in Maheshkhali. He will then hand over keys to new houses to 100 families affected by floods in Baharchhara, Banshkhali.

Later, Tarique Rahman will visit Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari for a courtesy meeting with Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari. Hefazat leaders are expected to raise various demands regarding Fatikchhari's development and public interest issues there.

Afterwards, the Prime Minister will pay respects at the grave of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi in Hathazari. He is also scheduled to take part in a rehabilitation programme for flood victims in the same area, where financial assistance will be provided to affected families and persons with disabilities.

In the final phase of the visit, he will attend an organisational meeting of BNP at a five-star hotel in Chattogram city. Leaders from the metropolitan, north and south district BNP and its associate organisations will attend. The meeting is expected to discuss Chattogram's organisational situation and the party's future strategy.

Administrative and security preparations have been strengthened in Chattogram ahead of the Prime Minister's visit. Various road repairs and beautification works have also been carried out. The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Chattogram for Dhaka around 9:20pm after the day's programmes.
